Around 1 a.m. Thursday, deputies were called to Highway 63, near mile marker 39,
where an SUV had overturned/KTVO
NEAR OTTUMWA, Iowa — A Fairfield woman has died in a single-vehicle crash, just
north of Ottumwa.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday, deputies were called to Highway 63, near mile marker 39,
where an SUV had overturned.
Chief Deputy Don Phillips told KTVO Leslie Palmer Lane, 59, was found dead at
the scene.
Investigators said it's possible Lane fell asleep at the wheel.
Phillips said Lane's vehicle crossed a median in the road and rolled several
times before coming to a rest on its top in the median.
The crash is still under investigation.

KTVO is still trying to get more details.
The sheriff's office initially told KTVO troopers with the Iowa State Patrol
were investigating the crash.
Troopers redirected KTVO back to the sheriff's office for information. Their
representative said more details will be released later Thursday morning, as
deputies are still trying to make contact with the victim's family.
